  'BETTER THAN SHIMANO'
Strengths: Crisp easy 1 finger (well thumb) shifting. Smaller unit than shimano. Choice of brakes (no dual control)
Weaknesses: can mis shift over bumpy terrain with your thumb
Overall: when shimaNO made dual control some things things happend. People still wanted hope disk brakes et al SRAM made these after there X.0 was a huge hit but expensive People bought these in there masses and bike companies started putting them on there bikes SRAM anr no longer the underdogs after shimaNO's biggest mistake ever if you ask me.

'CRISP SHIFTING BUT LEVER POSITION WON`T SUIT SOME'
Strengths: shifting is flawless, much better than shimano especially when riding in muddy conditions
Weaknesses: the levers do get in the way, no matter where i positioned the levers i kept catching my thumbs on the right hand up shift and the left downshift.
Overall: great shifting but i could`t put up with the lever positions so i swapped them for XO`s, yes they are expensive but they have far more adjustability.

  'GREAT, SILKY SMOOTH SHIFTING.'
Strengths: Never fails, silky smooth and reliable. Got mine for 50 notes for the pair. Look around for some good bargains.
Weaknesses: The black lettering can be fairly easily scratched off. But the performance is spot on. No issues as of yet.
Overall: Great product. You won;t be dissappointed.

  'FAR BETTER THAN SHIMANO'
Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Overall: The action is more positive than rapidfire, but the big difference is the position of the levers, the release lever is perfect to just flick with the thumb, and still be able to hit the brakes. Going back to my other bike with shimano, it just feels wrong. The only problem I've had is that the gear indicator bar on the rhs has disapeared.

'WORKS A TREAT, WORTH IT. I LIKE IT.'
Strengths: I like the way these things shift. the 1:1 definitely makes a difference.
Weaknesses: cost?
Overall: I changed over to these things because I wanted to try my Tracer with the adjustable geometry without slapping my rear deraileur on the chainstay. Srams stuff allowed me to do just that. It seems to move up or down, prior to finishing the thumb movement. I had XT before and it was never bad or out of adjustment, but I fancied a change. These are working excellently and I am getting used to the thumb movements required to operate these triggers. The matching x9 rear mech works a treat. They were easy to set up in less than an hour! Once fitted they needed no further adjustments.

'CLEAN SHIFTING, SHINNY AND WELL MADE'
Strengths: The double thumb shifting style is almost impossible to live without. Looks good. Shifts nice and precisely.
Weaknesses: Mine stopped shifting after 18 months
Overall: I am very impressed with both the feel and layout of this shifter. It feels more robust and cleaner when shifting compared to X7 and don’t think I would go back to the old finger-thumb layout of Shimano shifters. I found it easy to set up and it remained working perfectly even through the worst winter muck. That is until it just stopped shifting two weeks ago. It seams that the sealing of the unit is not perfect and some muck got in the housing leading to complete failure of the shifter. I make sure to clean my gear thoroughly and was amazed to see the state of the shifter when I opened it (by the way I’m not sure you if are supposed to open it as the spring inside went flying) and despite a good clean it was knackered. At the same time I decided to strip my other SRAM shifters and they were fine so this could a one off. 18 months is not bad but by no means good. Having said that the fact you can buy the left and right hand units separately means the expense is kept down. I will say that the shifter had covered a lot of miles and seen some serious abuse (I'm not the most delicate of riders) and never diminished in performance right up to its demise. The fact that I immediately went out and bought a new X9 shifter to replace the broken one says it all really.

  'NO GOING BACK'
Strengths: I fundamentally prefer the shifting style to Shimano, thumb shifting is easier to control, especially on descents. Shifting positive and crisp.
Weaknesses: There seem to be some underlying reliability issues - for both front mech and rear mech I have had the shifters sticking (after 1 year) which I resolved for the front but not the rear despite loads of lube (I then replaced the shifter). Two others I ride with have reported very much the same problem. Plastic end cap pain to get out without it chewing up!
Overall: Despite the question mark over reliability I wouldn't shift with anything else. I haven't really had any problems with the levers during rides. Making the change from Shimano only takes one ride to get used to and after that it is truely second nature. Easier to adjust on the trail as adjustment is at the shifters only. I have both X.7 and X.9 and would recommend spending the extra.

  'FINGERTIP SHIFTING'
Strengths: Fast, reliable shifting
Weaknesses: None once set up correctly.
Overall: A real Shimano alternative, paired with the X-9 rear mech these give really crisp anhd swift shifting at least as good as XT. Takes a ride or so to set up the position but when sorted downshifts in particular are really just a flick of the thumb. Reliability seems good and the absence of cable adjust on the rear mech means that adjusting cable tension can be done simply on the trail at the shifter end. At least as good as XT, and I'd pick over dual-control any time.

'POSITIVE SHIFTING AT THE TIPS OF YOUR FINGERS'
Strengths: good positive shifting. the kind of shifters that give a nice distinctive clunk when shifting up, and a good crisp click when shifting down. gear indicator window is well positioned so it can be seen no matter what angle you have your shifters (unlike most shimano shifters) shifting is also quick and direct, must be something to do with the pull ratio.
Weaknesses: none to mention, only gripe is with my hope pro levers, they can only be on one side of the shifters.
Overall: really well made and reliable. combined with x-9 rear mech and xt front, the shifting is second to none. despite the different action to shimano the shifting is easy to get used to (couple of hours) would advise anyone who is thinking of getting some to have long grips so that you dont accidentally catch the downshift paddle with your thumb. only come of my bike once since iv'e had them so they are still in one piece and nice and strong.

  'WELL THEY'RE ERR... DIFFERENT!'
Strengths: Rapid responsive shifting, they do feel very sweet. You can shift down 5 gears on the rear with just one thumb movement. Very impressive!
Weaknesses: The problems you'd all imagine with theses shifters are true. The levers get in the way! I dont know if it was just me not having them set up right, quite possible, because the left shifter never got in the way, but i always ended up knocking my thumb on the right upshift lever, I tried adjusting the setup but it still always got in the way.
Overall: As for reliability, I cant really comment on that becuase my bike got nicked!:( They seemed to be well built though
