Strype Street Store

Our recently refurbished Strype Street store is now bigger, brighter and better than ever! As well as stocking a wide range of cycling products, we have devoted a large part of the store to mountain bikes and MTB specific accessories. With its MTB focus, and experienced MTB staff, our Strype Street store is fast becoming London’s premier MTB store.

Our fully equipped workshop and Cytech Qualified mechanics have been helping city cyclists get where they're going for more than ten years. The experienced team - headed by Workshop Manager Matt - offers same day service on scheduled repairs and will always try to fit in on-the-spot jobs where possible.

Strype Street is serious about servicing. Is there a shiny upgrade you just have to get? Perhaps your commute bike's summer tune-up is due? Or maybe you ate dirt at the weekend and the wheels are looking a little wobbly? Call the store, or just drop in and you'll get the advice and the service you need - 7 days a week.

What bike do you ride?
My main bike is a Trek Remedy 9 (160mm travel on the front), Trek Session 88 (my downhill bike), Kona Cowan (Jump Bike)
How did you get into mountain biking?
I started dirt jumping then went into mtb street riding. This gave me core skills which really helped when about 7 years ago I got heavily into natural trail adventure riding, which has lead me to compete in the Mega Avalanche for the last 3 years.
How often do you go out riding?
I commute daily, and ride my mountain bike as regularly as possible, getting up north at least once a month.
Where's your favourite place to ride?
Glentress, Innerleithen in Scotland and Chatel bike park in the French alps.
What advice would you give to someone starting out mountain biking?
Stay loose and relaxed on the bike, let it dance around under you, and looking ahead is essential.
What do you most like about mountain biking?
For me it is my transport to seeing hidden places. I have been on many adventure holidays, Morocco, traveling the High Atlas Mountains for 6 days, and most recently completing the Tour of Mont Blanc, three countries, 6 days, 10,000m of climbing!
What's your all time favourite piece of kit?
Rockshox Reverb, most important part of mountain biking!!!
Where do you see the sport of mountain biking going?
This year has brought Enduro racing to the forefront of mountain biking. It’s an event where you ride trails all day, have a time period to complete the climbs, but all of your downhill times are added together to produce who is the fastest throughout the day. The exciting thing about this sport is its generating bikes that are capable of climbing for hours, usually with 160mm travel with the right geometry to nail it downhill!
What excites you about your store?
Highly passionate and knowledgeable staff, which are living this sport everyday.
Who or what has inspired you over the years, and why?
My biggest inspiration is from mountain bike films that show you the boundaries of the sport being pushed to new limits every year. Life Cycles and Where the Trail Ends are essential viewing for pure inspiration, and you have to go and ride your bike after watching these, even if it is the middle of the night!

Customer Testimonials

"Just a short note to say many thanks for all your help in recent weeks. Your service department for finding the crack in my frame, your salesperson Kim for offering invaluable advice about what new bike to purchase and your manager, James, for his help in navigating the cycle to work scheme so I could be back on the road the same day while kindly dealing with Ridgeback for the damaged bike.

Your team and your customer service are a credit to Cycle Surgery.

Best regards,"

"Just wanted to drop a big thanks to the mechanic who sorted out the rear wheel of my T700 yesterday (Tom i think it was). Just rode it home, brakes and gearing are perfect. Feels like new, it's a pleasure to ride again.

You have exclusivity on my bike repairs. You'll see me again.

Until next time,

Darryl, 14th August 2013

"I just wanted to thank Mark Barningham and the mechanic (Tom) who built my new Mountain Bike recently. The guys were awesome!!! I have been riding bicycles (roadie) for the past 25 years and this was definitely the best service I have received from a bicycle store. Nothing was too much effort and the guys were really knowledgeable.

I am moving over to mountain biking and these guys gave me tremendous insight and were happy to spend loads of time with me discussing various tips on the do’s and don’ts of mountain biking.

I will 100% be going back to this store for all my servicing and future MTB purchasing needs.

Thanks guys. I really appreciated it."

"A quick message to tell you about the excellent service I received – and have consistently received.

I was looking to purchase a new bike, but was lacking in knowledge of what I wanted/needed. After visiting a number of different bike shops and being disappointed in the service, I went to your Strype Street store and got everything I needed.

Your employee, Kimberleigh, was very knowledgeable, patient and helpful. Within the space of 30 mins I had gone from not knowing what I wanted, to putting down a deposit on a bike that I am very pleased with. The service has been great and your team has been very accommodating with me visiting at different times to collect different bits of equipment.

I would also like to mention Alberto, who has always been very helpful and approachable on previous visits to the store.

Well done for offering a great service."

"Just wanted to say thanks to the guys at Strype Street for their excellent customer service.

Bought my 2nd bike in just over a year from here and both times the staff have been really good.

James & Alberto helped get me fitted properly on my new bike today, for which much appreciation.

Cheers,

"My wife & I recently purchased a hybrid bike each with lots of accessories from your Spitalfields store in London. We really enjoyed our whole shopping experience, after becoming really disillusioned with many other bike shops in the capital.

All your staff were great, especially James, his knowledge, helpful attitude & advice was fantastic. Alberto was also great when I came back to test ride my bike and get it all set up.

The mechanic did everything for us both and we are made up with our purchases.

We are having our first touring week on the bikes at the weekend, really looking forward to it.

I will be recommending this store to my friends wholeheartedly. It is so rare these days to receive such good quality service that I had to write to feedback on your super employees."

Andy, 20th February 2013

"I wished to write regarding my recent experiences at your Spitalfields store, where my wife and I purchased a pair of Specialized hybrids some months back.

The manager and his team are in every way an outstanding credit to your firm. They have been courteous, friendly and extremely helpful, going out of their way to help us resolve any issues with the bicycles, and to answer any questions.

As examples, when my wife was finding that riding was causing her back pain, the store manager took the time to correct her posture, adjust the bike & modify the handlebars to resolve this, and when my chain snapped, one of the staff swapped it during his lunch break. There have been numerous other occasions with similar examples.

I would appreciate it if you can pass on our deepest thanks to the Spitalfields team - on the strength of my experiences with them, I now recommend your store, and that branch specifically, to any of my friends or colleagues who is in search of anything bicycle related."

Richard, 26th November 2012

"I just wanted to say thanks. My bike is in full working order now and your staff were great, even though I arrived last night at about a minute to going home time!"

Jo D, 15th November 2012

"Wanted to thank Dan for his brilliant advice and help yesterday with my new specialized, he went way beyond what's required to help me out. I appreciate it, so thank you for the great service."

Oren G, 11th October 2012

"I had my Brompton serviced on Friday 14th September 2012 at your Spitalfields Strype Street branch.

My bike is now running like new, and I just wanted to thank the bike mechanic(s) who worked on it for doing such a great / value for money job on it. Your staff there were also very helpful and friendly."

Martin, 21st September 2012

"I just wanted you to know how helpful Martin was to me when deciding on which road bike was best for myself.

In fact all cycle surgery stores including Highbury were very helpful and restored my faith in customer service and attention to detail.

Martin made up the Trek Madone (women's version) which was a beautiful bike and gave me some great advice.

It was a difficult decision, but in the end I went with a specialised bike I got from your Fulham store where the staff spent a great deal of time with me and were again incredibly helpful.

Mark and Lynn were also exceptional at Fulham and I look forward to making more purchases from your stores in London."

Tanya I, 8th September 2012

"I just wanted to drop you a quick email praising the professionalism and help your staff have provided me with over the last few months. I am new to Mountain Biking so have been into your Strype Street store regularly to purchase kit (everything from a new 29er and helmet to tyre levers and patches) and all your staff, but most notable James, Sam and Mark are always available to talk me through the kit I am looking at. I never leave the shop feeling it was all about "the sell" and more like I've had a chat with someone who has helped me out to get better at riding my bike. Not only do they 100% know what they are talking about but have been extremely helpful with suggesting places to ride and tips on how to keep the bike performing smoothly. All in all an excellent service and the reason I walk straight past your competitors shops and down to Strype Street."
