Strype Street Store

Our recently refurbished Strype Street store is now bigger, brighter and better than ever! As well as stocking a wide range of cycling products, we have devoted a large part of the store to mountain bikes and MTB specific accessories. With its MTB focus, and experienced MTB staff, our Strype Street store is fast becoming London’s premier MTB store.

Our fully equipped workshop and Cytech Qualified mechanics have been helping city cyclists get where they're going for more than ten years. The experienced team - headed by Workshop Manager Matt - offers same day service on scheduled repairs and will always try to fit in on-the-spot jobs where possible.

Strype Street is serious about servicing. Is there a shiny upgrade you just have to get? Perhaps your commute bike's summer tune-up is due? Or maybe you ate dirt at the weekend and the wheels are looking a little wobbly? Call the store, or just drop in and you'll get the advice and the service you need - 7 days a week.

James Allodi - Store Manager

James Allodi - CycleSurgery James Allodi - Store Manager - Spitalfields

James has been into bikes from an early age, and has been racing them since the late 90's. He's also spent a number of seasons in Whistler as a mountain bike guide. To say James loves riding his mountain bike is an understatement! We caught up with him to find out a little more about what makes him tick!

What bike do you ride?
Currently I ride a Specialized Demo and an Orange Crush, but I have an Orange Alpine 160 on the way!
How did you get into mountain biking?
I started racing XC in 1998, and then moved across to dirt jumping in 2002 and into downhill a few years after that.
How often do you go out riding?
I commute daily, and ride my mountain bike as often as I can (roll on the summer for post work rides).
Where's your favourite place to ride?
South Wales in the UK; Whistler, B.C. internationally.
What advice would you give to someone starting out mountain biking?
Keep looking ahead! Always try to look 10-20 feet in front of your front tyre, not at it!
What do you most like about mountain biking?
How much it continues to challenge me, as well as the huge hit of adrenaline the first time you do "get away with" something new and scary!
What's your all time favourite piece of kit?
Dropper seatposts - never leave home without one!
Where do you see the sport of mountain biking going?
Constant pursuit of the 'one bike to do it all' dream - more growth in the 140-160mm travel Enduro/All mountain side of the sport.
What excites you about your store?
The amount of passion for the sport in all of the staff. Every day we live and breathe this sport. At any point you could walk in and find us all discussing frame geometry, suspension setup, riding spots or even dishing out a few tips and hints.
Who or what has inspired you over the years, and why?
Everyone I have ridden with, particularly the people I have taught/coached. Seeing someone achieve something new always drives you to improve and push your limits.
Final words
Everyone should visit British Columbia, Canada if they want their mountain biking mind comprehensively blown away!

Customer Testimonials

"Just wanted to say thanks to the guys at Strype Street for their excellent customer service.

Bought my 2nd bike in just over a year from here and both times the staff have been really good.

James & Alberto helped get me fitted properly on my new bike today, for which much appreciation.

Cheers,

Dermot, 23rd May 2013

"My wife & I recently purchased a hybrid bike each with lots of accessories from your Spitalfields store in London. We really enjoyed our whole shopping experience, after becoming really disillusioned with many other bike shops in the capital.

All your staff were great, especially James, his knowledge, helpful attitude & advice was fantastic. Alberto was also great when I came back to test ride my bike and get it all set up.

The mechanic did everything for us both and we are made up with our purchases.

We are having our first touring week on the bikes at the weekend, really looking forward to it.

I will be recommending this store to my friends wholeheartedly. It is so rare these days to receive such good quality service that I had to write to feedback on your super employees."

Andy, 20th February 2013

"I wished to write regarding my recent experiences at your Spitalfields store, where my wife and I purchased a pair of Specialized hybrids some months back.

The manager and his team are in every way an outstanding credit to your firm. They have been courteous, friendly and extremely helpful, going out of their way to help us resolve any issues with the bicycles, and to answer any questions.

As examples, when my wife was finding that riding was causing her back pain, the store manager took the time to correct her posture, adjust the bike & modify the handlebars to resolve this, and when my chain snapped, one of the staff swapped it during his lunch break. There have been numerous other occasions with similar examples.

I would appreciate it if you can pass on our deepest thanks to the Spitalfields team - on the strength of my experiences with them, I now recommend your store, and that branch specifically, to any of my friends or colleagues who is in search of anything bicycle related."

Richard, 26th November 2012

"I just wanted to say thanks. My bike is in full working order now and your staff were great, even though I arrived last night at about a minute to going home time!"

Jo D, 15th November 2012

"Wanted to thank Dan for his brilliant advice and help yesterday with my new specialized, he went way beyond what's required to help me out. I appreciate it, so thank you for the great service."

Oren G, 11th October 2012

"I had my Brompton serviced on Friday 14th September 2012 at your Spitalfields Strype Street branch.

My bike is now running like new, and I just wanted to thank the bike mechanic(s) who worked on it for doing such a great / value for money job on it. Your staff there were also very helpful and friendly."

Martin, 21st September 2012

"I just wanted you to know how helpful Martin was to me when deciding on which road bike was best for myself.

In fact all cycle surgery stores including Highbury were very helpful and restored my faith in customer service and attention to detail.

Martin made up the Trek Madone (women's version) which was a beautiful bike and gave me some great advice.

It was a difficult decision, but in the end I went with a specialised bike I got from your Fulham store where the staff spent a great deal of time with me and were again incredibly helpful.

Mark and Lynn were also exceptional at Fulham and I look forward to making more purchases from your stores in London."

Tanya I, 8th September 2012

"I just wanted to drop you a quick email praising the professionalism and help your staff have provided me with over the last few months. I am new to Mountain Biking so have been into your Strype Street store regularly to purchase kit (everything from a new 29er and helmet to tyre levers and patches) and all your staff, but most notable James, Sam and Mark are always available to talk me through the kit I am looking at. I never leave the shop feeling it was all about "the sell" and more like I've had a chat with someone who has helped me out to get better at riding my bike. Not only do they 100% know what they are talking about but have been extremely helpful with suggesting places to ride and tips on how to keep the bike performing smoothly. All in all an excellent service and the reason I walk straight past your competitors shops and down to Strype Street."

Andy S, 4th May 2012

"Thank you for everything and arranging my new bike, Cycle Surgery deliver in every department and also for such a large organisation the stores are perfectly joined up. This is why I have bought my 5th bike from Cycle Surgery."

Howard, 27th July 2011

"I want to sing the praises of the Spitalfields Cycle Surgery. I went in with a Trek Madone with a very poorly bottom bracket. The bike had sat with [another bike company] for a week while they waited to compile an order from their suppliers. By this time I had only 4 days to get my bike sorted before I was off to the Tour de France in Brittany..

With no real hope, I went to the Spitalfields Cycle Surgery. They could not have been more helpful. Justin, the workshop manager, looked at the problem, got in touch with Trek to source the part directly, and as an interim measure, rebuilt a "frankenstein" bottom bracket in case the part didn't show up.

The part didn't show - even Cycle Surgery couldn't work miracles but the bottom bracket Justin had built up from his own stock of bits lasted for 300 miles over 3.5 days without any problems. When I came back the new bottom bracket was fitted the day I took the bike in.

I would have had a miserable time without Justin's and the team's help. The rest of the team were fantastic and you really get a sense that they enjoy working in a great bike shop with a local bike shop feel.

I would recommend them to anybody. Treat them with respect, they look after our rides!"

C Hobbs, 22nd July 2011

"...I then took interest in the 2011 model [of the Specialized Allez], it was slightly out of my price range. Kimberley said, take your time, have a coffee and come back or cool off and come back on Monday, we can hold the bike till then. Her colleagues were good humoured and made me feel at ease. I went for a coffee with my brother and then came back.

Kimberley was so down to earth, she listened, gave me all the time in the world, at no point did I feel pressured or intimidated. She answered all my stupid questions and never once showed any arrogance. Please thank her for expert customer service, the team on that day were great and a pleasure to be around.

I think every cycle retailer should treat every customer as a potential sale even if its not on that day. Plant that seed into my head about the level of customer service I can expect and it can sway my decision."

Mr K Chavda, 16th April 2011

"I recently purchased a bike from your Strype Street store. I used the tax free cycle scheme so had dealings with James Robertson as well as the staff at the store. Both the staff in the store and James were exceptionally helpful. I had a specific bike in mind and called your online centre to confirm if the bike was in stock – it was and the numbers they gave on stock volumes were accurate. The [other bike company] had been particularly poor at this by way of comparison.

The process was very straight forward. James in particular went out of his way to get the tax free cycle scheme in place for me.

In short, I was very impressed..."

Mr G Atkinson, 18th August 2010

"Just wanted to say I had some great service this morning when trying to replace brake pad on my Trek Fuel. [Justin] helped me fit the new pads and advised me on how to do it, all in about 5 minutes. Most impressed!"

Mr B Harrington, 6th August 2010
