We’ve lined up 3 of the hottest enduro rigs to hit the market this season.

Enduro is set to be the big thing for 2018, with 29-inchs being the wheel size of choice. With the help of Cycle Surgery bike Buyer and all round mountain bike specialist, Sam Bannister, we’ve selected the top three rigs to really get excited about this season…

Whyte S-150 RS

It’s felt like a long time coming for Whyte, but the dawn of the long-travel 29er is now on the horizon with the brand releasing their new S-150 for the 2018 season. With all the merits of the much-lauded T-129, Whyte have pulled out all the stops to create something truly next level when it comes to design and capability.

Adaptability was the aim of the game when it came to the S-150 – creating in effect two bikes in one. On one hand, the S-150 is a 29-inch wheeled enduro monster, capable of carrying speed giving stability throughout the toughest singletrack and Alpine descents. But by simply swapping the wheels out and putting a set of 27.5-inch x 2.8 wheels on gives the bike a very different ride characteristic. The larger air volume in the 2.8-inch tyres allows you to run a lower PSI, giving the rider limitless grip and capabilities to ride fast in wet and muddy conditions.

Other features on the Whyte S-150 is a custom Rock Shox Pike with a 42mm off-set which delivers epically smooth steering and takes away any wobble you might get. Developed directly with Rock Shox, this fork compliments the bike superbly and suits the trail/enduro category the bike is pitched at.

Orbea Rallon M10

2018 is most definitely the year of the 29er, and the Orbea Rallon M10 is one of the most exciting 29-inch enduro rigs to hit the market for the new season. With a unique asymmetric design, advantages beyond stiffness and low weight are gained. By offsetting the shock, the amount of vertical space required to fit the shock and frame support is reduced, leaving enough room for a tool kit and a 500ml bottle with easy left-side access. Orbea have designed the new Rallon with a lower standover height across the range (thanks to the 12mm offset of the shock), allowing for a more confident ride experience when taking on gnarly descents and singletrack sections.

Components wise, the Rallon M10 comes enduro/alpine ready with SRAM GX-Eagle 12 speed and Fox 36 Float fork and DPX2 Factory Kashima rear shock. The M10 achieves fantastic grip with a set of Maxxis Agressor 2.3” tyres and two Shimano XT hydraulic disc brakes ensure you stop on the line.

It’s the difference between the tentative first go of the year and the ripping third lap of a midsummer day. It’s the ease of knowing your suspension is dialled. It’s a boost of confidence, speed and control when a bit more of any could make a winning formula. Enduralin is the extra bit of fun that turns a good ride into a great one – the shouting of the crowd, a flow state of euphoria, cowbells, chainsaws, accelerated reaction time and enhanced perception. It’s the difference between a Good Time and All-Time.

Marin Wolf Ridge 9

Regarded as the ultimate mountain bike, the Wolf Ridge range finally archives the promise of riding anything and everything. Thanks to the no-compromise Naild R3ACT – 2 Play suspension system that uses advanced kinematics to redefine what full suspension can be. Producing plush, ground-tracing suspension along with unparalleled pedalling efficiency, the Wolf Ridge can pin it on the descents yet climb amazingly efficiently – a true all-mountain rig that will serve as one bike for every ride. Constructed out of unidirectional carbon fibre that utilises the latest in high modulus carbon fibre technology and materials for the lightest and strongest frame possible.

Geometry and ride balance is where the Wolf Ridge really comes into its own. Marin uses biometric fit data based on statistics of people’s body proportions, to develop the proper fit and weight distribution on each size of the Wolf Ridge. Using the data collected, Marin created four bike sizes that put each rider in the optimum position so that the centre of gravity is the same for all sizes of people for balanced suspension kinematics, no matter the rider.
