Make the most of this half-term with our guide to the top five family bike rides in and around London.
The half-term break has come around once again, and a week full of family activities is nearly upon us. The freedom from school is a great opportunity to get out on the bikes with the whole family for some cycling fun. Here are five family-friendly cycle adventures you can have in and around London.
Located south west of London, Richmond and Bushy Park are a must for those looking to escape the hectic streets of the city and seek some quiet with the family. A short journey from central London, Richmond and Bushy Royal Parks are 2500 and 1099 acres respectively and therefore offer a fantastic opportunity for a family cycling trip this half term. Their large size means there is plenty of space to roam around, ideal for those looking to teach their kids to ride for the first time, and those looking to take their children’s cycling up a notch.

Are your kids that bit older and eager to try something new? Then the Lee Valley VeloPark has a lot to offer you. With almost every cycling discipline available to have a go at, the London Olympic velodrome provides a fantastic opportunity for aspiring track cyclists, daring BMX and mountain bikers or those kids with the Tour de France in their sight. All equipment can be hired from the venue itself making a half term trip here even easier. And while you’re there, why not pop into Cycle Surgery on the bottom floor and say Hi!

The towpath that runs from Kingston upon Thames to Shepperton offers beautiful views throughout the whole of the ride. Rideable all on the towpath itself, it is a fantastic option for a whole family cycling outing. With plenty of great pubs and cafes along the route, this ride will prove to be a brilliant whole day out, whether you get all the way to Shepperton, or get waylaid in a pub or two.
